The Center for Global Education hosted approximately 80 new international students on Thursday, August 28, 2014 in the University Center Ballroom for a dedicated dinner. This year’s new international students enhance the diversity of the UW-W student body, hailing from approximately 25 wide-ranging countries to include Kuwait, France, China, Sweden and Australia, among many others.
UW-Whitewater students, faculty and prominent staff to include Chancellor Richard Tefler, Provost Beverly Kopper, and CGE Director Candace Chenoweth attended the event. International students enjoyed a traditional Wisconsin dinner of fish fry complete with potato pancakes and coleslaw and a desert of apple pie and ice cream while interacting with the campus community and enjoying a slide show documenting their recent arrival in the country.
Other orientation activities included information sessions from campus offices, culture presentations, shopping trips, and administrative sessions. The week culminated in a trip to Devil’s Lake where students swam, hiked and cooked out, enjoying some of the natural beauty Wisconsin has to offer while making friends with peers and learning about native traditions.
The new international students join over 100 returning students from across the globe. Together new and returning international students enhance the educational experience of all UW-Whitewater students with unique global perspectives and long lasting cross-cultural friendships.
